The workshops are organized by provincial CHRP designation granting HR associations across Canada, all are members of the CCHRA. Workshops are presented by experienced HR practitioners, academic experts or scholars and contain insightful information on the Required Professional Capabilities (RPCs®).

    National Knowledge Exam® Preparation Course
    Outline of the Program
    BC HRMA's National Knowledge Exam® (NKE) Preparation Course offers all the strategies and basic knowledge to prepare you for the NKE.
    Take the preparation course well in advance of your exam date to give yourself ample time to fill in gaps in your knowledge in the seven core competencies.
    During this interactive two-day workshop, participants will review and discuss important HR theory for each competency area. Sample exam questions will be analyzed. Participants will have an opportunity to practice in a simulated exam setting and discuss techniques for passing.

    National Professional Practice Assessment® Preparation Course
    Outline of the Program
    These facilitated learning sessions provide an opportunity for CHRP candidates to collaboratively work with peers to review potential exam questions and possible solutions for the Professional Practice Assessment. Participants are expected to bring sample scenarios for discussion. In addition, participants will be given the opportunity to participate in an online follow-up study group.

    Presenters:
    Stephanie Milliken, CHRP, is an HR professional with 20 years of hands-on experience in a variety of industries. She has an MA degree in HR Management, BA degree in Industrial Psychology, and has earned two nominations for the BC HRMA Award of Achievement in Human Resources. Stephanie has spent eight years championing HR strategies at the executive level, and now practices as an independent consultant to HR professionals and organization leaders.

    Enhance your preparation with a one day NPPA Workshop!

    The HRIA offers an intensive one-day preparation workshop twice a year in locations across the province. The goal of this course is to equip candidates with the tools and knowledge needed to prepare effectively for the National Professional Practice Assessment®.

    During the full day NPPA Facilitated Learning Sessions, CHRP Candidates are provided with an opportunity to collaboratively work with peers to review potential exam questions and possible solutions for the Professional Practice Assessment. Participants are expected to bring sample scenarios for discussion.

    Workshops also offer:

    • Content tied to the “Required Professional Capabilities” that will be examined and material applicable to each area.
    • Overview of other sources of information that can be used to assist in preparing for the exam.
    • Review of the exam structure, timing, requirements, etc.
    • Samples of multiple-choice questions; an opportunity to practice responding to questions related to topics within each Required Professional Competency.
    • Review of exam writing techniques and tips for success.
    • Opportunity to network with other people and form study groups.

    National Professional Practice Assessment® Preparation Course

    Outline of the Program
    This course is designed to help participants consolidate the knowledge they already have and – more importantly – identify where they need to focus additional studying in order to be successful in completing this multiple-choice assessment.
    The facilitated learning session provides an opportunity for CHRP candidates to collaboratively work with peers to review potential exam questions and possible solutions for the NPPA.

    Learning Objectives

    • Learn techniques for preparing to write assessment-based exams
    • Learn tips and suggestions for analyzing more than 20 HR scenarios and solutions, learning how to determine the most effective answers for the situations provided
    • Receive the "best answer" analysis for each scenario
    • Assess your judgement and knowledge in each discipline area
    • Develop a personal development plan

    Presenters:
    Tanya Cole, CHRP, is an experienced professional and instructor in human resources, labour relations, compensation research, job evaluation and fiscal management. She is currently a Labour Relations Officer with Treasury Board Secretariat, Government of Manitoba. Tanya brings many years of experience working in a variety of human resource functions. She has developed and delivered human resource courses and seminars for the Government of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg, Red River College and the private industry.

    Yvonne Thompson, CHRP, CHSC, has been a business leader and Human Resource specialist for over 15 years. Her company, Change Innovators Inc., specializes in Organizational Wellness, Leadership Training and Occupational Health and Safety. She teaches Organizational Behaviour, Managing Occupational Health and Safety and Safety Culture at Red River College. She is also an instructor and facilitator for the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering. She has written various published articles on the subjects of Leadership and Wellness. She is the Past President of the Accident Prevention Association of Manitoba, the President of the Women Business Owners of Manitoba, a facilitator and teacher for “Leadership Winnipeg” through the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce and the Volunteer Centre of Manitoba.

    If you are writing the NKE, please note that HRANB is proud to offer our CHRP NKE Preparatory Session again. This program, developed by the British Columbia Human Resources Management Association is now the official NKE preparatory program provided by five provincial HR associations including HRANB.

    CHRP National Professional Practice Assessment Preparatory Sessions

    Learn with the best. HRANB offers the BC HRMA CHRP National Professional Practice Assessment (NPPA) Preparatory Session as a one-day preparatory program for the NPPA Exam. Developed by the British Columbia Human Resources Management Association, this is now the official program provided by five provincial HR associations including HRANB.

    The NPPA Exam was revised in 2009, and the HRANB Preparation course was revised accordingly.

    This course is designed to enable you to enhance your understanding of the revised exam format and testing process, review areas of study, learn tips and tactics for writing this scenario-based exam, practice sample questions to evaluate your individual knowledge, and share learning with colleagues through discussion and participation in learning teams.
